Happy Thaanksgiving all.

This year, my parens are rambling around in Greece, so it’s not a big family ordeal, but that’s OK. For the past few years, I’ve made Thanksgiving dinner for just my brother and I. This year, however, I’ve decided to forgo the turkey and just make roast potatoes with halibut and maybe some sweet potatoes. However, for those that are maybe cooking dinner, check out these two recipes from my favorite cooking show, Good Eats with Alton Brown.

Roux is the key to good gravy and you can use it for white gravy as well as brown. Yum.

Sweet potatoes or yams are god baked, candied, or mashed. I prefer mashed.

Use up that (almost) free money

For those of us that are gainfully employed, I thought I’d take a moment to remind you to use up your Flexible Spending Account. Or to get one. This is the time of year when we do benefit enrollments at my company and i actually upped my FSA. A lot of 20somethings seem to neglect their health, thinking that the doctor/dentist/opthamologist costs too much money. Silly thinking, I say.

Insurance is there for a reason, to be used. In addition, FSAs take out money pre-tax, and as a person who’s FSA saved me a chunk of change last year, it’s worth it. It can be used on co-pays, stuff insurance doesn’t cover (such as root canals), cold medicine, or contact solution. Seriously. Use it. You paycheck won’t know the difference.

For more info on FSAs, check out this post on MyMoneyBlog

It’s true. So when trying to figure out what’s goin on in the beauty world, lately I tune into The Beauty Brains, a web site which combines science, marketing and beauty. It makes you a better consumer. For instance, purging (which supposedly happens when you switch to a new cleansing method), should never happen.

Check it out.

So. Still on the hunt, but we’ve gotten this far. I really think the Vitamin C serum that I’ve been using has been making a difference. I was going to buy it, but I’m lazy, so I’m making it.

Embarassing thing is, the recipe I’ve been using required me to stand in front of the lubricant aisle for about 15 minutes.

Two recipes:For 20 percent serum, use:

1/2 tsp L-ascorbic acid
2 tsp KY Ultra

For a 10 percent serum, use:

1/2 tsp L-Ascorbic Acid Powder
4 tsp Ky Ultra Gel

You need the KY that doesn’t have aloe in it. And the Vitamin C powder is easy to find at Trader Joes or GNC or the like. It’ll last you forever. I’ve been using my serum in a glass dropper bottle. I put it in the fridge, because it’s only supposed to last a week or so. When it starts turning yellow, that means it’s bad.
Vitamin C is supposed to help guard you from free radicals. God knows what they are, but it also enhances your sunscreen. For me, it seems to be clearing up my acne, and making my face more radiant.

Guys need pretty skin too!

11-9 kiehls.jpg

A couple of posts back I mentioned some new face wash my brother got. It’s from Kiehl’s. I adore the smell, it honestly is totally energizing, hence the name Facial Fuel Energizing Face Wash. It’s $16. A bit on the expensive side, I know. But if you hate it, Kiehl’s will let you return it. Thank God.

On the cheaper side, The Boy swears by Nivea for Men ($6 from drugstore.com).

shhh….

At my last job, I sometimes worked the weekend shift. Which is great, but also boring, especially if they had nothing for me to do. So from time to time, I’d read books. But I never bought them, I read them online. Gotta love copyright laws. So if you’d like to look like you’re reading an intense document, when you’re really reading Invisible Man, check out these places.

Bartleby also has reference books, and I use it sometimes when researching. It’s fantastic.

ReadPrint also has a good collection

Skin adventures ctd

So, after moving to CA, my skin is still freaking out, and my little LCM trip didn’t help it out any. I’m sure lots of girls do well with OCM, but my skin hated it. Strangely, it’s gone from combination-dry to oily. Wheee.

So I’ve been on the hunt for new face stuff and using Cetaphil in the meantime. Here is what I’ve found so far.

11-3 clay.jpg

Got2B Pure Intent Clay Mask. There’s a lot of clay masks out there. They’re supposed to wash away impurities in your pores in such. All I know is that my face likes this, even if it does have questionable parabens. It’s less than $4 at Drugstore.com or you can get it from Walgreens or the like.

Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum, Concentrated Amino-Peptide Complex, Fragrance Free - 1.7 fl oz

My sister turned me onto this. It’s a serum and it’s supposed to help your skin turn over new cells faster. Not sure how it does that, but I like it so far.

I still need:

everyday cleanser, moistureizer with SPF, vitamin C serum, and maybe eye cream. Do you need eye cream in your 20s? or is it all a lie? I think i totally might steal my brother’s facewash from Kiehl’s. Hmmm…

Apologies.

I’ve been gone for a long time, and I had no good excuse. I did have to send my laptop back again, but that was only for three days.

*hangs head in shame*

I’ll make it up to you.
