Although no one can read this page yet, unless they’re clever, I’m going to post a list of things that have helped me on this re-design.

This is how Josh and I decided to go about this blog.

Although we considered this, multiple blogs seemed like the best answer, mostly because excluding categories would require a lot of recategorizing. (associated links: advanced category excluder, a plugin i was considering and detailed directions to do it by hand.)

When setting all this up, somehow we broke AT&A proper. the short story is we first had a 500 error on this site, thne fixed that and something was wrong with the terms table, so I had to upgrade my database, then a 404 error kept popping up. Eventually, it was something wrong with the naming we did in conjuction with a redirect and then the database upgrade. I’ll try to link to pages we used along the way, in chronological order.

The database situation. Link

Codex for backing up and upgrading databases. (I had a hell of a time working with 1and1 on this. Stop outsourcing CS!) Link and link

This fixed the weird renaming situation. Link

There was a final login error having to do with the wp-login.php file. I downloaded a patch from this thread. Link

And so finally we got here. I’m now running on k2 RC3 and doing just fine, so far. I’ll update this post as I go along in the process. I’ll leave it here when we launch.

Plug-ins I’m using:

the quickpost plugin helps me post a bit more often here. It basically makes this blog a tumblelog. (I considered the tumblr bookmarklet, and may use it if quickpost doesn’t work out.)

Share This is the best plugin I’ve found for networking sites. I customize mine to add StyleHive as well.

All-in-one SEO pack is a plug-in I’ve considered for a long time and I’m going to see if it makes any difference.

Adsense Manager is a popular adsense helper. I’ll see if it makes adsense work better for me.

Simple Tags is a plugin that helped me out a ton as I went back and retagged everything. I started tagging randomly then realized I totally forget when i stopped so I used the untagged posts feature.

WP-Polls to well, add polling.

WP-Contact form to hopefully get more press releases my way.

Related posts, to see if that’ll get people to stay around longer.

WWSGD will ask people to subscribe to this feed.

Redirectify is helping with navigation between AT&A and Tumblr.

WP-Sticky is going to introduce people to the new design.

Happy Halloween!

It’s not a “real” holiday, but it is to me and my religion of sorts. So I’m taking the day off. Eat lots of candy and enjoy. Oh, and dress up, even if you are an adult. I’m going to be a nerd. You?

etsy: monk journal

Writers need journals. I was cleaning out my bookshelf the other day and came across two journals I haven’t even used. Doesn’t matter though, I’ll keep buying. I love the way this monk journal looks. I can totally see some Franciscan hanging out in his robes, jotting down thoughts about God and the world. Although pricey, it’ll be a journal you have for the rest of your life. ($130)
Get it.

lusts: backless but not quite backless top
30. October 2007

This is not the backless top from the beginning of the millenium. You remember them, they were pieces of cloth, basically, tied at the back to keep it all together. Bras were not an option. I wore them, you wore them. Let not lie to ourselves here.

But this top is backless without being trashy and gives just a hint of sexy. You don’t have to wait until the sun goes down to wear this sucker, promise. ($152)

Get it.

This purse is like a really big coin purse. I like it. It’s from Finland and each one is slightly different, the best thing about handmade. ($70)

I love these mushroom bowls from miam.miam. The orbit bowls above are so cute and look perfect for cereal. The other bowls in the collection look like they stack upon each other.

Get it.

OK, we were seriously broken.

But now we’re OK, thanks to Josh (who by the way works on nerdshit.com and is awesome) and a number of other friends who are great.

Upward and onward.

what I’m up to
26. October 2007

watching: You have to see Across the Universe. it’s fantastic.

reading: Wineburg, Ohio. Still on that list of greatest books of all time.

doing: I’m now obsessed with tumblr. Love it.

eating: tuna sandwich with capers and wasabi mayo on flourless sprouted 7 grain bread. I know. that’s ridiculous.

wearing: I’m blogging in a towel. Too lazy to put clothes on.

We might be down for a few hours early this morning so I can do some stuff related to the launch. Hopefully I won’t break anything and all will be well by morning.
