Some things are just home because of the memories.

I have a end table that I’ve had since I lived in Kansas City and will love forever because of the day I bought it. It was a wonderful day with friends.

Do you have something like that?

on josh’s wishlist: skratchin’ nerdery
30. November 2007

Josh wants this thingie that is not shiny, but makes pretty music

Josh DJs. But not DJ as in on the radio, he scratches, or skratches, depending on how cool you feel.

Anyway, most of his gadget purchases revolve round this nerdery and so does his wishlist. He has this nifty software called Serato that lets him scratch better through his comp and this mixer that costs more than anything and everything I own combined.

This pad controller from Akai Professionals is just what he needs. Since I don’t know too much about this stuff, I will let the Akai web site explain it.

“Akai Professional’s MPD24 is the velocity sensitive pad controller for musicians and DJs. Modeled after the landmark MPC series, the MPD24 allows for an extremely expressive and intuitive solution to percussion and rhythm programming.

With 16 MPC-style velocity and pressure sensitive pads, four selectable pad banks for a total of 64 playable pads, six assignable faders and eight assignable, 360o knobs for transmitting MIDI Control Change data, the MPD24 provides unprecedented creative freedom for manipulating sampled material. The MPD24 also features transport controls for interfacing with DAW/sequencing applications. A fully reprogrammable controller, the MPD24 is a malleable and multi-functional tool that fits perfectly within any production or performance environment.”

As for why Josh needs this….thingie?

“Now that serato has implemented midi i could use the mpd-24 to control the software and other software like ableton live.”

I have no idea how much it costs, but this is the link to Akai.

I think my nephews would like this. It looks like fun, even for adults and woukd probably result in less scratches and bruises than the chalk and asphalt version.  ($170)

on orin’s wishlist: super mario galaxy
29. November 2007

My friend Orin, who is both a great photographer and video game maker, would like to say that he would like Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. ($45)
Why?

“because it’s Mario!  and having a Nintendo system without the associated Mario game is weird and wrong.”

So whoever is buying for my dear friend Orin should get him this. He so deserves it. He would also like some new pants, if you got some leftover cash.

Click on the pic above to be taken to Amazon, where the game is cheaper than it is at Best Buy.

laptop bags: carga for him
29. November 2007

carga felt bag

It’s time to bring back one of my favorite obsessions: laptop bags.

I was at a meeting a while ago and I spotted a young architect carrying this bag. It blew me away. It was simple, industrial, yet really elegant and nice. I wanted it. I finally tracked it down to Carga, which makes a bunch of other industrial felt bags. ($245)

Get it.

28. November 2007

mighty mouse is here to save the day!

Although the flying rodent would be pretty cool, I actually want the bluetooth computer mouse. My wrist demands it and it looks sooo cool and ultra portable. What Mac geek doesn’t want one?

(While you’re at it, could you get me Leopard too?)

Get it.

well-designed everyday
28. November 2007

vroom vroom i like this vacuum

Who doesn’t need good looking everyday things? Just because it’s a vacuum doesn’t mean it has to be ugly. This vacuum is certainly gorgeous. I would love to see this hanging out in my living room, even if I’m not using it. ($139)

Get it.

wants art
27. November 2007

wants art wants a wii

This might be the best idea ever. Wants is the art project of Christine and Justin. Every once in a while, they paint something they want, like a slice of pizza, a Wii or a month’s rent. Then they ask the art-buying public to buy this art, for the cost of whatever it is that they want. So this here Wii painting costs $270.92, the cost of an actual Wii.

Some things are for free, like a good joke or a night’s sleep. Some things cost a lot, like financial security (which apparently is $1 million).

Check it out.

on my wishlist: kensie outfit

kensie outfit at dillard's

Ever since I saw this photo in a magazine maybe four months ago, I’ve dreamed of this outfit. Serious. I dreamed of myself running through fields, singing at the top of my lungs in it. OK. Maybe I just daydreamed about how cool it would look on me. I still want it. ($118 for pants, $68 for top)

Get it.
