listing: what to invest in part 2
28. March 2008

(Did I mention this post was featured on the Splendicity home page? Go there to check out other awesome blogs)

I made a list earlier with five things I splurge on, so I thought I’d round it out and finish it off with five more.

American Apparel skirt

1. “The perfect black pants”

I know it’s kind of a given. Everyone will say invest in black pants that fit like a dream. What I really mean is a good staple piece. I like my black pants ,but my staple really is a American Apparel pencil skirt. I own three and I’m in love with all of them. It’s a signature to my look and people know that.

Find your staple, whether it’s black pants or a neon green parachute pants. It needs to be something that says a lot about your style and about you.

2. a pedicure

I don’t actually spend a ton on these, but the point is to give yourself a treat once in a while. Something you probably shouldn’t be spending money on. A massage, a pedicure, a good cup of coffee.

It’s good for your psyche to have a bit of expensive happiness now and then. I got myself a $40 pedicure this weekend and I feel so much happier looking at my pretty toes.

3. A classic coat

Trench coats are not for everyone and neither are pea coats, but there are lots of classic silhouettes. Coats are my soft spot. I love jackets and coats because they are the first thing people see.

Your outfit may be sweatpants and a old tee, but if you’ve got a great jacket on top, people will notice.

4. Good tweezers

Not something I usually see on lists, but I somehow spent the early years of my grooming life with a terrible pair of LaCrosse tweezers I bought for $5. They were terrible and I’d pull out more skin than eyebrow hair.

Then came my higher grade revlon tweezer. My, they were “expensive” at $11 or something like that, but they’re sharpened for a lifetime, like Tweezermans. They grab each and every hair…it’s a dream.

5. Good sheets

You spend eight hours a day rolling around in these things, why subject yourself to 100-threadcount? Get yourself some nice sheets, friends.

Good sleep is the basis to looking and feeling good, I don’t know how many studies have told us so. They don’t need to be the best out there, but something that is soft, comfortable and will last your for years.

Not my birthday, but my dear big brother’s. He’s my best friend, really and is the biggest loser on the planet, but I’m obliged to love him. I’m taking Monday off to celebrate with him, but I’ll be back Tuesday!

House of Spy Cardigan

I wouldn’t be wearing this cardigan like the model is, but it’s a cute option to throw over a dress when it’s chilly out. I like the sleeves.

matryoshka neck warmer
26. March 2008

nesting doll heatwrap

Oh, my aching neck. Between the day job and spending all my extra time contorting my body in yoga or damaging it further blogging, my neck is tired.

I met Amy from The Peach at an event a long time ago and automatically loved her cute little wristlets and upcycled clothing. It’s so nice to have an etsyian near me!

I spotted this cute little neckwarmer while checking out her store and it’s so much better than my ugly fuzzy blue one. Everyone loves Matryoshkas.

18″ x 5″ and filled with rice. Essential oil is available. $15

Get it at The Peach.

what i’m up to
25. March 2008

puzzles are puzzling

doing: puzzles. It started with a weekend and some friends. It’s nerdy, I know. Then it became an obsession. By the way, it’s a glow in the dark unicorn puzzle with a wizard. Nothing is more fitting for your first puzzle in years. I’ve got a four more in my car courtesy of freecycle.

wearing: lots of flowy tunics. It’s been that kind of weather lately. It makes me lust over this on etsy.

buying: nerdy macbook stuff. Some memory and a new battery.

reading: The Way of All Flesh by Samuel Butler. Pretty decent, for famous historical literature.

drinking: super coffee from my stovetop espresso maker.
