I’ve got a soft spot for letterpress and other old-school type things. I’ve got some old letter blocks hanging out in my office and I try to pick them up whenever I see them at antique stores.
I had a media law professor in college who had a table made of the old iron letter pieces from a newspaper. Since I don’t have the pieces (or money) to make a such table, this piece from Crate & Barrel is a great option.

Oooh, I love it! You could probably paint the base white quite easily.
Here’s another idea for a similar style table: Take a bunch of those old-fashioned alphabet blocks, glue them together and attach them to a thrift store coffee table. Cover with glass or varnish. I think it’d be supercute.
