question: cleaning an (almost) new couch

So, finally, after a month without a couch, I got one.
It’s a Craigslist find and it’s great, except it needs a little cleaning. So, dear reader, how do you clean upholstery? Steam cleaning worth it? Or should I try something else?

I clean mine by renting a Rug Doctor, or similar machine, and also renting the upholstery attachment that you can use with it. I thought it did a really great job. While I was at it, I cleaned my car with it too!
You can do what my furniture shop owner-friend does…..take it to the local car wash and give it a good scrub-down, quick rinse it, and let it air dry…..she gets terrific results from doing that….
