what I’m up to
28. February 2008

It’s Thursday, and high time you guys find out what has been in my head this past week.

watching: Don’t tell me who wins Project Runway. I’m about two weeks behind in my DVR.

listening: Joni Mitchell’s Blue. My good friend Jason got me a copy for my birthday and it’s been amazing.

wearing: still breaking in my Natural Comfort heels. I think they’re going tobe amazing once I stretch out the toe part a little more

wanting: some juice. seriously dehydrated lately or something.

reading: still Alias Grace. I just got The Ruins in the mail though and am waiting for some sleepless nights.

loving:  spectator ballerina flats from Forever 21. I think I need these.

viewmasters are back?
23. February 2008

viewmaster lives!

When I was little, I had a Viewmaster. I had some slides of Disney movies like the Black Cauldron and a bunch of other stuff. I loved them. I thought they had stopped even making them, but then I headed over to Bona Drag, who has some upscale viewmaster slides for you to peruse.

($22-24 for slides, $7.50 for viewermaster)

the perfect bookmark (or two of them)
07. January 2008

lastline bookmarksthe perfect bookmark

Did you guys get books over the holidays? It always seems like I get a preponderance of scarves and books (I’m a avid collector of both).

In the spirit of bookworms all over, I present to you two bookmarks. I’m using the first right now, the LastLine bookmark. They work really well and I can always find my place the next night. ($3.50)

I do really like the bookmark on the right, the “Perfect Bookmark,” made by GurlyGirl at Etsy. A great gift, these are handcrafted with solid sterling silver. You can even get a single initial stamped on them. ($25)

Get the LastLine bookmark at The Added Touch.

etsy: monk journal

10-24-monk-journal.jpg

Writers need journals. I was cleaning out my bookshelf the other day and came across two journals I haven’t even used. Doesn’t matter though, I’ll keep buying. I love the way this monk journal looks. I can totally see some Franciscan hanging out in his robes, jotting down thoughts about God and the world. Although pricey, it’ll be a journal you have for the rest of your life. ($130)

mel lim + blik
18. October 2007

10-16-mel-lim-blik.jpg

The thing I love about blik is that they’re constantly updating their designs. Wall decals are nothing new by this point and they’re all over the place, but blik continually does cool things by teaming up with artists and other companies (hello my favorite, Threadless!). Mel Lim is the latest in these collaborations and I will say that I’m in love with thee paper airplanes. ($35)

the team colour
17. October 2007

10-15-team-colour.jpg

My friends over at Ben the Illustrator have teamed up with a number of other great artists to form a collaborative called The Team Colours.

Their site describes it as such: “We are a team of artists that came together around the globe due to our shared love of color.”

Not a lie at all. They’ve released a set of prints and they are bright. I love art that pops and these artists definitely know how to do that.

Check out their site here.

sukie agenda

10-15-agenda.jpg

It’s nearing that time of year where calendar frenzy ensues. Fred Flare has this awesome agenda from sukie that might even be better than my moleskine. It’s got some tear-off notecards and all sorts of cute extras. ($28)

10-8-moleskine.jpg

I could write about Working Class Hero’s laptop sacs, since I love writing about laptop bags, but I love this moleskine case. It’s so fantastic, and it’s handmade with great felt and soft leather. It’s rustic and gorgeous. ($25)

site I like: kiosk
05. October 2007

10-2-marking-pen.jpg

Kiosk eternally amazes me. It’s a random site, which is maybe why I like it, since AT&A is pretty random as well. Basically, for a set period of months you can find random good from different countries there. It ranges from household goods, to food, to paper crafts and on and on. Right now, it’s on Finland. However, you can get goods from before, like Japan is still on there as is Germany, Mexico and Sweden, and ongoing items.

Each item is described with exquisite care and you can tell the people at Kiosk took time to find this stuff.

Check out the description for the marking pen above ($2):

Mark till your hearts content, stays on porcelain, mirror, metal, etc. Comes in handy when you least expect it. For instance, if you need to label your bicycle or write your husband a daily reminder message on the bathroom mirror, “Put your laundry in the basket” or on the refrigerator door (as long as it is not white) “Please close the door and do your dishes”, etc etc. Made by a firm established in 1907, we visited their factory in the countryside; it was a small place their home was adjacent to. The mother and co-owner of the business showed us around, the top floor was packing and warehousing; the bottom floor was where the goods were made. It was a pretty exciting operation, totally down to earth and very basic, not at all what one imagines when you have their product in your hand. I was thinking assembly line, teams of people, industrial environment, etc etc.

Check it out.
