Adventures in skin care, ctd.

So. Still on the hunt, but we’ve gotten this far. I really think the Vitamin C serum that I’ve been using has been making a difference. I was going to buy it, but I’m lazy, so I’m making it.

Embarassing thing is, the recipe I’ve been using required me to stand in front of the lubricant aisle for about 15 minutes.

Two recipes:For 20 percent serum, use:

1/2 tsp L-ascorbic acid
2 tsp KY Ultra

For a 10 percent serum, use:

1/2 tsp L-Ascorbic Acid [...]

Blink, it’s blik!

9-6 blik.jpg

Blik, and other wall-decal types of things have fascinated me for months. I’ve always been a renter, so painting is usually a no-no, and with the latest digs, I’ve been waiting for my roommate and some helping hands to do the painting with me. Regardless. I checked out Blik’s site the other day and they now have flips ($45), which are double sided and , well, flippable. For the [...]

Anyone out there a wino?

If so, you can join Carlo Rossi in building wine jug furniture. I’m fond of the chandelier, which takes 33 jugs, or the TV stand, which takes a mere three jugs. The site comes complete with build specs and video

My to-do list

I’m an aspiring crafter. That means I’m not so good at it, but I try. That’s what counts, right? These are on my to-craft list.

Laptop bag that matches this $80-100 felt bag.

A scrabble message board with my some-of-the-letters-are-missing-but-it’s-more-fun Scrabble game.

Cat toys that profess my love for sushi.

Easy wall art with all those jewel cases I have laying around

Organize my closet finally. [...]

Fabric beads.

Doesn’t this necklace look amazingly like this necklace? I saw the new Tara Jarmon stuff at Target (which is awesome by the way) and this necklace called to me. I said, “I could make that.” So i looked it up. Gotta love the people over at Craftster. Check out the tutorial here.

Ah-HA! I can make shelves of books

5-8 bookshelf.gif

This Umbra bookshelf has been all over the ‘net in the past couple of days. Last night, I sat down and said, “There must be a way to make this thing and save the $20.”

Yes, yes there is. One L-bracket from the hardware store and some good strong double stick tape (to keep the bottom flap from hanging down) plus a book that you’re OK with potentially ruining and [...]

Home-made goodness

5-7 wood.jpg

I love Etsy. If I were crafty, I’d make more things, but to be honest, I’m too lazy and don’t have enough to to learn how to silkscreen or knit or make my own jewelry.

Etsy brings you real-world crafters, and their wares. Check our favorites Junxtaposition who make a fantastic fork necklace, mLee who makes gorgeous woodcuts and {read the rest}

A garden of rain?

4-26 rain.jpg

No, not exactly. Rain Gardens are little pieces of compressed land that help stormwater runoff. Why do you care about stormwater runoff? Because sooner or later you end up drinking it. A rain garden can save you from icky drinking water and those little mini-floods that happen in your yard after a rainstorm.

They’re a big deal up in Minneapolis and even our favorite cheap furniture store IKEA has a bunch.
