romeo and juliet shop

My dad is a hard guy to shop for. Generally, he’s happy with just a phone call for Father’s Day, but that is just not enough, really. I can’t seem to decide whether he’s a gadget type or a gardener type.

Juliet Shops is a site where the work is done for you. Like Violet, it groups gifts based on his interests. Not sure still? You can take a quiz to find appropriate gifts.

Go shopping for something perfect.

news: gilt does men
07. April 2008

Gilt Gilt, one of the online sample sale sites I’m a fan of, is now doing men’s sales and they’re starting with one of my favorites: John Varvatos.

My brother will be so excited. He’s been lusting after some Varvatos stuff for months.

What? You are not a member of Gilt? Well, send me an e-mail at (admin at allthatanda[dot] com) and I’ll hook you up.

hussein chalayan capsule collection for yoox
14. January 2008

Chalayan jacket

Introducing Hussein Chalayan Spring-Summer 2008 Menswear Collection Exclusively for YOOX, a pretty nice little capsule collection for the dudes out there. And there are plenty. My brother complains almost daily how hard it is to shop for new and different men’s clothing.

I found it to be pretty simple and charming, with my favorite item to be this jacket with an offset pocket. I’m a sucker for a nice jacket.

Go check it out. Collections like these generally fly off the (virtual) shelves.

let him pick his scent

sephora scent sampler....smells good

Still need to get your man a gift? Rush over to Sephora and grab this scent sampler. Best idea ever.

This is what happens. There are 8 samples and a gift certificate in the pack. You get the pack for your guy, and he tries each and every one and then picks one he wants. He tackes the certificate to Sephora and gets a full size bottle for later. ($50)

Get it.

on josh’s wishlist: skratchin’ nerdery
30. November 2007

Josh wants this thingie that is not shiny, but makes pretty music

Josh DJs. But not DJ as in on the radio, he scratches, or skratches, depending on how cool you feel.

Anyway, most of his gadget purchases revolve round this nerdery and so does his wishlist. He has this nifty software called Serato that lets him scratch better through his comp and this mixer that costs more than anything and everything I own combined.

This pad controller from Akai Professionals is just what he needs. Since I don’t know too much about this stuff, I will let the Akai web site explain it.

“Akai Professional’s MPD24 is the velocity sensitive pad controller for musicians and DJs. Modeled after the landmark MPC series, the MPD24 allows for an extremely expressive and intuitive solution to percussion and rhythm programming.

With 16 MPC-style velocity and pressure sensitive pads, four selectable pad banks for a total of 64 playable pads, six assignable faders and eight assignable, 360o knobs for transmitting MIDI Control Change data, the MPD24 provides unprecedented creative freedom for manipulating sampled material. The MPD24 also features transport controls for interfacing with DAW/sequencing applications. A fully reprogrammable controller, the MPD24 is a malleable and multi-functional tool that fits perfectly within any production or performance environment.”

As for why Josh needs this….thingie?

“Now that serato has implemented midi i could use the mpd-24 to control the software and other software like ableton live.”

I have no idea how much it costs, but this is the link to Akai.

on orin’s wishlist: super mario galaxy
29. November 2007

My friend Orin, who is both a great photographer and video game maker, would like to say that he would like Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. ($45)
Why?

“because it’s Mario!  and having a Nintendo system without the associated Mario game is weird and wrong.”

So whoever is buying for my dear friend Orin should get him this. He so deserves it. He would also like some new pants, if you got some leftover cash.

Click on the pic above to be taken to Amazon, where the game is cheaper than it is at Best Buy.

maxine gifts: gift-giving made easy
24. September 2007

I love buying gifts for birthdays and such, but sometimes, I’m lazy. Lets face it. I’m lazy. I like to get really cool, handmade stuff as often as I can, but sometimes I forget. Like my mom’s birthday, when even the card was sent three days too late. Sometimes, you just need an emergency backup gift on hand. This is where Maxine gifts comes in hand. Instead of sending my mom a card with a scribbled I love you and a phone call with promises of dinner next time I’m in town, I could have gotten her an awesome gift basket with all sorts of great stuff, found from all over.

The basket above has pretty note cards, a pen, a candle and shower gel. And it looks so cute! ($60)

Get it.

for the dudes: travel roll-up
18. September 2007

9-17-rollup.jpg

I’ve been badly neglecting the male population of my readership (are there any of you left?) lately. But I found you something cool.

Instead of tossing random bottles of shampoo or whatever into a TSA regulation size plastic bag, you should get this awesome travel roll-up thingie from John Allan’s. It’s even got 2 oz samples of a bunch of John Allan stuff. It looks really nice too, in all leather. How manly is that? Definitely worth the hefty price tag. ($245)

Get it.
