A thought about eating sweet

I was reading waiterrants, a cool blog about a water and his observations on…life and food more or less. But I read this entry on dessert and it made me kind of sad.

I don’t typically order desserts at restaurants, but that’s more because I grew up with a mom that made desserts better than most restaurants. But to know that wait staff will lie and tell you they’re made there makes me depressed. At least the blog’s author is honest.

It’s true that desserts can be very time-intensive, but that’s part of the love of cooking. Any good restaurant should, in my opinion, understand that people go to restaurants to taste someone else’s creation, not some factory creation. If I’m going to a nice place, I expect love to come with my meal. If I’m going to a chain, like Chili’s, of course it’ll be mostly frozen.

It just goes to show the loss of passion in consumerism, everything from bland clothing stores like Gap/Express to restaurants. *sigh*
