Refinery29 does a great round-up on what happened in London. Some really great stuff is coming out and I think we’re on to Milan now? I can’t keep up.

It’s not even fall, but since Fashion Week just wrapped up, I figured I’d at least tell you what I saw on the runways.

Get: a thin belt, something sheer (please layer), wide-leg pants, a slim fitting knee length skirt or dress and maybe something metallic.
Keep: mini-dresses, t-strap heels, neutrals and menswear vests, high waisted things
Get rid of: most of your jersey dresses, big crazy prints, big fat huge belts.
But you never have to listen to me. How many lists like this have come out in the past few days anyway?

Tops 2 Bottoms is some videos, including the Erin Fetherston’s collection. Link

Fasshonburu has a good article on the lack of diversity at Fashion Week. I agree and personally jump up and down when I see a Asian model. Link
Omiru is keeping up with the shows much better than I am, and she has coverage of the Marc by Marc Jacobs show, which might be one of my favorites so far. Link

From what I can gather, this is Kapustina’s first fashion week here in the US. She’s quietly found her way into the closets of plenty of celebs, but isn’t quite well-known. Which is a shame, because she does some really cute stuff. I managed to score a few pics of her show earlier this week.

From the front this dress looked pretty simple, but the back is just ah-mayz-ing. It looks like jersey, too, which I haven’t seen a lot of designers do this season. I personally like jersey because it’s insanely easy to care for and generally falls just right on you.

There is no way this dress isn’t going to end up in a magazine somewhere. It’s a really pretty design, although I hate horizontal stripes. Unless you’re totally fit, they look horrid. (psst check out the nude pumps on whoever is on the font row!)

This is one of my favorites. I love the shoes. And the pink floral pattern isn’t something from a grandmother’s closet. Great cut, with the skinny belt we’ve been seeing a lot of (are we done with big wide belts?)

Another flowy jersey look. This dress is kind of eh, although I enjoy fabric manipulation, it’s an overdone look. The sunglasses are great and yet another headscarf.
Boiled down: I haven’t been able to find shots of the whole collection anywhere, but these (courtesy of the designer) look pretty promising. It seems like the same theme we’ve been seeing everywhere: headscarves, tropical island colors with muted bases and some fabric manipulation. I can definitely see why stars like Olga, her work is nice. I think she’s still growing, which is perfectly fine, and I look forward to more of her stuff.

Here’s a quickie look at the Ralph Lauren Spring 08 collection. I’m doing a lot more of this at Indie Style File, but I’ll try to do a couple more of these this week for more mainstream designers here.

Colors: Black, white, bubblegum pink, bumblebee yellow

Patterns and fabrics: I think I saw some silk shantung, flowy crepe floral patterns, a ton of stripes: thick and thin.

Looks: jodhpurs! I haven’t seen them anywhere else, although I know they’ve been edging in the trends-setting set for a few months. These are actually pretty well-done, although with my thighs, I’ll never wear them. I was less of a fan of the Grandma floral dresses. And of course, RL does what he does best: menswear-country-club-equestrian looks. Some great evening wear, most of it strapless, lots of ruffles.

Accessories: The shoes were nothing exciting. But the hats. Oh my. Big church hats. Tiny newsboy hats and the little ones with feathers that you clip on (the name escapes me at the moment)

Just a few images and comments on shows I’ve spotted. (all photos style.com)

No one knows how to make a dress like Diane von Fursternberg. I love all the bright colors and slght safari aesthetic in her show. Lots of yellow and brown, colors I’ve been getting into lately. This dress is so on the beach in Monaco.

Apparently, a capsule collection was done by Behnaz Serafpour that is totally organic and eco-friendly. I wish all designers did this. Lots of black, brown and yellow. Tons of yellow at all the shows. I love the big loose jackets and high waisted shorts. I’d never wear highwaisted shorts (I say that now!) but they look totally fierce. I think the items I believe were from the capsule collection looked good. Not too hippie.

Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever disliked anything 3.1 Phillip Lim. I would buy this whole outfit, especially the cute skirt. And the bag. Love the bag.
All of it: I haven’t had the time to check out all the shows, but the majority of Spring 08 is muted, with punches of color. The fashion world is totally in love with yellow and grey. Lots of embellishments, from sequins to applique. And it looks like more natural fabrics. I was seeing a lot of silky and satin-y pieces.

This will probably give away the company I work for, but a paper I know of has a good fashion week slideshow.
