I am not sure how I feel about smelly jewelry, but I sure did love those fruit scented markers and scratch-n-sniff stickers. So maybe a chocolate glazed donut scented ring would make me happy?

These little guys are made to order and the scent is supposed to stick around for a while. The ring is adjustable.

Check out Pancake Meow, they have a bunch of other sniffy charms and stuff. They sell out super fast, so if you see something you like, I’d get it.

peggy li necklace Peggi Li might already be famous. I mean, she has been on Grey’s Anatomy, Without a Trace and Buffy. Well, her jewelry that is.

But she is still affordable for the masses (that’s you and me).

Amethyst necklace

The necklace to the above and left is simple and gorgeous to me. Amethyst is my birthstone and it is really hard to find a stone that is a dark and vibrant. The stone is 1/2″ wide and suspended between the links of the chain. It comes in 16″ and 18″ long. ($59)textured links of gold-fill or sterling chain, your choice.

leftovers necklace

 About the designer

Like many other designers I’ve featured, Li did not start as a jewelry designer. She was a chemical engineering major at Berkeley. But Telegraph Avenue lead her inspiration to where she is today.

Leftovers bracelet

All those nights where you just pull together whatever is in the fridge must be where Li got the idea for this bracelet.

She basically pulls whatever stones and beads she has laying around and makes a beautiful bracelet on a gold-filled chain. I like how it ends up — hodge podge,  but in a classy way. It comes in 7″ of 8″ legnths. ($80

‘ve taken my leftovers, beads lying around my studio, and made a gorgeous bracelet! Turquoise, carnelian, tiger’s eye, wood, pearls, sponge coral, pink pearls, brown pearls, apatite, peridot — I choose what beads I have on hand, you’ll get a beautiful bracelet like the one above. On matte finised gold-filled chain, choose 7″ or 8″ in length. ($80)

anne kiel resin

I’ve featured Anne Kiel before, but she was kind enough to e-mail me about her newest item — these pretty red resin charms — which is perfect for valentines!

Each necklace has a typewriter letter on it and comes on a simple chain.  ($22)

luminaries earrings When I was looking through Anne’s site I also found these super cute luminaries earring. ($63)

The faceted look which is totally still kind of raw and glam is perfect. They’re perfect for date night, and I don’t even really like earrings!

They come in jet black, crystal silver and peacock blue, which is the one in the picture.

earrings from annepoonAnne Poon has two sides to her jewelry.

There is a sassy modern side and a classy contemporary side. Yes, modern and contemporary mean two different things in my head.

Ganlin

Side one, is embodied in a collection called Ganlin, which means necklace in Cantonese. Poon says that Ganlin embodies contradiction, with heavy vs light chains, plastic vs vintage beads, etc.

I see it as a LA urban streetwear kind of feel, although most of the pieces are still very feminine.

She does an interesting thing with earrings. I am used to earrings matching perfectly. That is rare with Anne Poon. The Baroque earrings to the left show that. They’re matched, but uneven. ($80)

cactus necklace from annepoon

About the designer

Poon was born in Hong Kong and took to art pretty quickly. She originally wanted to be a fashion designer, but that dream was set aside when she took a architecture class at the University of Michigan.

She graduated in Architecture and continued designing all the while. She opened up her studio in San Francisco when she was 27.

Cactus love

This necklace is one of my favorite pieces. It’s also from the Ganlin collection. It’s called Golden Cactus ($130) and totally reminds me of driving through California when I first moved here. All those tiny towns in the desert are so fascinating and crazy.

This necklace seems to scream “I’m looking for something here, but I don’t know what it is.” I think, at least.

anne poon's line earrings

Lin

Lin is the the side of Poon’s jewelry. It is not more delicate and it is not so different that you feel a disconnection.

Poon says this about Lin: “The design of LIN is to provide a line of jewelry that is elegant, but playful, simple, yet sophisticated. The essence of this collection emerges from the subtle mix and match of semi-precious stones, swarovski crystals, glass beads and very fine chains.”

The Lovely Autumn earrings to the left are part of the Lin collection. I like how they are kind of opposites of each other, one with the beading at the top of the earring, the other at the bottom.

mike nad chris sculpture ring

We know Mike and Chris around here.

Their LA-branded stylish sweatshirts and hoodies have been on my lust list for ages.  They’re always hip, modern and slightly industrial without looking gothy. It’s gorgeous stuff.

gold earrings

Well their reach has now extended a little bit further than clothing for the urban set.

Mike and Chris have recently launched a jewelry line, which so far, only includes women’s jewelry. I do however think the rings above are pretty unisex in their design.

I’m not sure how new it is, but it’s extremely well done. The jewelry perfectly fits in with the look they create with their hoodies and jackets. It’s city wear, definitely.

raw stone bracelets Agas and and Tamar is basic earthy jewelry that is extremely well made.

There are lots of raw stones beaded together at Agas and Tamar that make each piece look ancient and modern at the same time.

About the designer(s)

Perusing through their site yield plenty of gorgeous photos, although there’s no much on the designers themselves.

deborah messing

I do know they are in Tel Aviv and they aim for synergy between the materials and the artisan. Inspirations listed include ancient coins, the streets of Tel Aviv where past and present merge and nature itself.

Followers

The brand has found loyalties in Deborah Messing, who seems to really embody the kind of woman who wears Agas and Tamar. Simple, yet refined. Elegant and earthy.

She seems to favor their necklace and earrings with gold. I’m not sure what kind of gold it is, but it must be closer to 24k gold (the nice people at A&T tell me they are mostly 22-24k, with a few pieces in 18k), because of it’s more yellow properties.

Agas and Tamar isn’t really delicate or ultra modern like some of the jewelry that I’ve shown this week, but I still like it. This is the kind of jewelry I would wear to dinner or out running errands.

necklace

It’s everyday jewelry with beauty. Honestly, you should wear nice accessories every day. As with your wardrobe, a small collection that is well made and reliable is much better than a box full of cheap jewelry that will break next time you wear it.

I love the idea of collecting pieces and passing them on to friends and loved ones as time goes on.

bracelet

collarbracelet

Anastasia Azure make this gorgeous stuff. It’s hand weaved fiber and wire, which is why it looks so sculptural. The collar –made of copper, cotton and rayon — is my favorite, it is incredibly standout. This jewelry seems so traditional and incredibly futuristic at the same time and the colors and patterns are gorgeous.

Crazy thing is, Azure also makes silver looped jewelry in addition to this stuff, which has a totally different aesthetic.

Go to the weaved collection.

fine jewelry week: jerusha at windowsill
22. January 2008

branch earrings There’s not a lot of jewelry at windowsill right now, but that doesn’t really hold me back from writing about them. The jewelry there is almost all silver and I think collections are released quarterly.

It’s all really beautiful stuff like these branch earrings. ($52) They’re made of fair trade silver and have a very organic look to them. I love that hte materials are fair trade, which makes my souls feel a little more comfortable about buying all the metals that I do.

I don’t know much about jerusha, the force behind windowsill, but I do know she’s from Ontario. Gotta love Canadian jewelers, I seem to really like a lot of what they do for some reason. Is it the weather up there that inspires such pretty stuff?

cocoon necklaceJerusha’s etsy profile says this: “jerusha is a girl who loves to imagine new purpose in old beauty. she loves small things, foxes and bears, and hand-drawn letters. she works from her sunlit cottage, where basil and thyme grow in the windowsills and collections of odd and wonderful things often spill over into this shop.”

OK, she is a girl of my own heart.

My favorite piece at her shop is actually on hold for someone else (you are a lucky girl jolene!). This necklace has a piece of quartz as it’s centerpiece. Quarz rough is so often very cheap and reminds me of crystal healers, but his particular piece is very pretty. ($85)

I hope she continues to release more jewelry and the line continues to grow.

Go take a peek at windowsill.
