jewelry: gas costs too much

8-12 gas necklace.jpg

Gas hurts these days. My wallet cries a little every time I have to fill up and I wistfully reminisce about the days when gas was under a dollar. Those were great times.

Designed in tiny batches by Julie Lake, this necklace will probably only set you back a couple of fill-ups at the gas station.

It’s a sheet of sterling silver with two tiny drops of 14K gold. Doesn’t it sometimes feel like you’re paying for gold?

$120.00

two sisters necklace

I love smoky quartz. There is something so sultry about the color of it, it reminds me of a dingy ’30s club with sexy flappers smoking up a storm.

Two Sisters, made by –you guessed it — two sisters, makes this pretty necklace among other great semi-precious stone necklaces. I liked the simplicity of this one and the obvious quality of the stone.

Available in 16″ and 18″. On sale for $25 from $35

Get it at Two Sisters.

felted necklace

felt necklace

Different shades of red are worked together in a piece of felted jewelry by ArtMind. Felt in jewelry is something I’ve been intrigued by for a long time. I think this piece is simple enough for every day wear and has a vey spiritual look with the infinity knot.

Necklace is about 17 inches long. $24.50

Get it at Art Mind.

guest post: top 5 tips for petite fashionistas
31. January 2008

(This is a guest post from Christa of the go-to blog for shorter girls, Petite Fashionista)

top-5-tips.jpg

1. Add a little volume to your hair (at the crown) it will add one to two inches to your look.

2. Add accessories near your face, such as necklaces or earrings to attract attentions upwards to your face and to make you appear taller.

3. A gold or nude shoe/sandal is close to your natural skin color, so it will make your legs appear longer.

4. When selecting a larger print use your fist as a reference to how big the print should be. Look for 60’s inspired flowers this season.

5. If you don’t own a wrap dress, go buy one! The wrap dress is a petites best friend, it doesn’t matter if you’re full figured, busty or flat chested - it will accentuate the nest parts of you!

fine jewelry week: jenni caldwell
21. January 2008

Jenni Caldwell is a Swedish and Scottish designer who has a knack for clean, simple jewelry that also knocks your socks off. OK, that may be a bit cheesy.

But her jewelry has the right amount of precision that makes it grand — and simple — enough to carry a whole outfit. This is the kind of jewelry that goes from a slinky black dress to a nice shirt and jeans without losing it’s beauty.

jenni calwell sycamore necklace

This sycamore neck cuff is amazing. I imagine hte leaves are a little flowy, and would move perfectly to offset the rigidity of the neck cuff. Caldwell’s site lists her major influences as the cool light of Northern climates and the environment and it’s definitely evident here.

silver cuff

This silver arm cuff is made from a single sheet of metal, which is then cut and them made to fit eat wearer. It’s supposed to go from about your wrist up your forearm. It looks so delicate, like a piece of ice.

This lightness carries throughout everything she makes. Even the heavily adorned pieces do not seem heavy or ornate. They remain simple.
