I’m not the best person to ask about scents. I tend to just sniff and go with my gut. I could never tell you what the base notes of a perfume are (but ask my friend Amy over at The Scented Life, she’s amazing).

The Scent Map is a great little online tool I found. Just plug in your favorite perfume, or your mom’s and the scent map will find something similar. You can also go more outgoing, fresh and other directions and it will adjust the scent picks.

I’m a Light Blue gal, so the picks they came up with are next on my to try list.

Find your girl (or yourself) a new scent.

quick link: what to do with old batteries
20. June 2008

I have mostly rechargeable batteries, but I still have some normal batteries around. Bad, I know.

I guess I should have been recycling them.

quick link: be happy
11. June 2008

The Real Simple blogs have really gotten my attention lately. They’ve gone and found all the great bloggers in each niche (but not me? How rude.) and Simply Stated was born.

I don’t answer the phone happily most of the time and it appears I should change that habit

makeup: the video that de-mystified eyeliner
05. May 2008

I’ve long loved mascara, but I never liked eyeliner. I wear contacts, so the leftover stuff always got in my eyes, or it got all smeary or I looked like a freak.

But this video, by the great Michelle Phan, changed my mind. I found it over at Beauty Gizmo.

Jenny e-mailed me a bit ago and pointed me toward this great 8-step home improvement post on Boostle. Home makeover books and the like are so instructional and boring sometimes. That, or they’re just unrealistic. I like Boostle’s suggestions, especially number 8, regarding cabinet hardware. So true.

Go there.

Well, you shouldn’t, cuz MTV is silly anymore. But in case you’d like to show up on True Life: I’m Going to the Little Person Convention, this is the place to sign up.

recommendations

I adore Bookmooch, one of the many book trading sites out there. Now, I find out there’s a recommendations engine, which takes the books I’ve asked for and want, and recommends more, thanks to Mikko Saari.

Search Amazon better
04. April 2007

Consumerist showed me a new Amazon search. It not only searches by percent off, but also through Amazon Prime (AKA $25 and over free shipping). Handy.

Sugar for hiccups.
26. March 2007

My friend Aaron always used sugar as a cure for hiccups. One BIG spoonful and a glass of water. It almost always works.

Apparently, word is getting out because Lifehacker made it their MacGyver tip.

Can you see?
16. March 2007

I have horrible vision. I mean really horrible. I usually wear contacts, but occasionally my eyes are too tired. Contacts are so finicky and glasses can be so cute, in that librarian way. Why pay up the wazoo for them?

Try getting a pair over the internet. All you need in your prescription, and you should have that already.

EyeglassDirect sells glasses starting at $28.
